Austrian Audio OC818 Variable Polar Pattern Microphone at AES 2019
Following the company's first public presentation at Prolight+Sound in Frankfurt, Germany, in April 2019, Austrian Audio's first product, the OC818 large diaphragm microphone, was displayed for the first time at the AES NY show courtesy of Cranborne Audio. The new OC818 not only features multiple polar patterns, but also offers innovative remote control possibilities, using the same CKR12 ceramic capsule as the OC18 microphone, which is a fixed cardioid version.
Sonion Combines Voice Pick Up Bone Sensor With Qualcomm Bluetooth SoC to Improve Speech Intelligibility
Sonion, the manufacturer of components and solutions for hearing aids and in-ear headphones, announced that it is now a member of the Qualcomm Extension Program and will offer the Sonion Voice Pick Up Bone Sensor on the Qualcomm Ultra-Low Power QCC5100 Bluetooth SoC series in Q1 2020. The combination will allow other audio manufacturers to implement reliable voice quality and voice recognition applications that are not hindered by surrounding noise.

China: 90% of Users Love Their Smart Speakers - 88% in the UK
The exploding popularity of smart speakers in China is confirmed by findings from the latest Strategy Analytics consumer survey. The report, 2019 Smart Speaker User Survey – China Results, found that 63% of people who do not currently use a smart speaker plan to buy one within the next year. Another 22% say they will purchase a smart speaker later on, suggesting that smart speakers overall should reach at least another 85% of the population.

Nureva Granted Three Patents for Its Microphone Mist Technology Platform
Nureva, the collaboration-solutions company from Calgary, Alberta, announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has issued three new patents for the company’s Microphone Mist technology platform. Patents numbered 10,063,987 and 10,397,726 describe the ability to focus sound signals in a shared 3D space, and patent 10,387,108 describes the use of sound source positional information to derive automatic gain control output parameters.
