WW Speaker Cabinets introduced its new X21 subwoofer cabinet solution to the DIY market. The X21 is the first commercially available home audio DIY subwoofer cabinet designed for 21” drivers. X21 subwoofer cabinets are lock mitered allowing WW Speaker Cabinets to offer finished cabinets with a choice of veneers, stains and lacquer finishes as well as raw MDF. All X21 subwoofer cabinets are customized for specific individual driver models and performance data is provided for each driver.
VB-Audio Expands VBAN Audio Streaming Capabilities with VBAN-Receptor
VBAN streaming audio protocol is an Open Source project, developed by Vincent Burel, which allows streaming up to 8 channels (7.1) of PCM audio at up to 24-bit/96kHZ on any LAN or WLAN network, including wireless. VB-Audio already offers a family of software solutions with VBAN support and now announced availability of VBAN Receptor, a simple application to receive and listen to VBAN Audio Streams.
Yamaha TF Series Digital Mixers Get Firmware Update for AES67 Support
Yamaha released a major firmware update for the company’s TF series digital mixers, bringing with it significantly expanded audio networking capability. The firmware update — version 3.1 — allows TF consoles and the recently released TF-RACK equipped with an NY64-D Dante interface card to connect to audio networks, such as Ravenna, that support the AES67 audio-over-IP interoperability standard.
Elliptic Labs Introduces Inner Peace Ultrasonic Presence Detection Technology
Elliptic Labs, a company specializing in ultrasound sensing, announced Inner Peace, a new technology that takes presence detection to new levels and is aimed at the fast-multiplying market for intelligent personal assistants and similar consumer/household devices. The new technology was demonstrated at the 2017 Mobile World Congress, in Barcelona, and is more reliable, and covers broader area than alternative approaches.

AES Technical Committee Group Formed to Explore Audio for New Realities
The Audio Engineering Society’s Technical Council (AESTC) has formed a new group to advance the science and application of Audio for New Realities. The group will serve the needs of the audio community working in Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Reality environments. “New realities” covers a whole gamut of application areas including film, games, music, communications, medicine, forensics, simulations, education and virtual tourism.

Infineon and XMOS Cooperate on New Voice-Recognition Platform that Combines Radar with MEMS Microphones and Audio Processing
At Mobile World Congress 2017, Barcelona, Infineon Technologies and XMOS partner to deliver a new building block for voice recognition. It features a combination of Infineon’s BGT60TR24B 60GHz 2Tx/4Rx radar IC with accompanying antenna, 70dB SNR silicon microphone sensors, based on Infineon’s dual backplate MEMS technology, and an audio processor from XMOS. In combination, the solution provides far field voice capture by audio beamforming combined with radar target presence detection.
