Total Listening to Audio on a Phone Surpassed Traditional Radio Listening in 2022
According to a recent study by Edison Research, Americans already spend more time listening to audio sources on mobile devices than they do from radio receivers. This is the first time that phones surpass the time spent listening to traditional radio, revealing that mobile phones continue "chomping" audio shares. And more worryingly for traditional broadcast radio, this is happening even in the car.

Technische Universität Berlin and AFMG Publish High-Resolution EASE GLL Data for 22 Musical Instruments
Ahnert Feistel Media Group (AFMG) in cooperation with the Audio Communications department of the Technische Universität Berlin, has recently published a set of high-resolution GLL datasets for 22 musical instruments for use in EASE 5 First Edition! The data is the result of a major project which was realized by the research group that took several years to complete. Numerous musicians have been recorded playing their instruments in an anechoic chamber using a purpose-designed spherical microphone array.

This patent, granted to MrSpeakers, the company from San Diego, CA that is now Dan Clark Audio, was granted in the same month that this review was published in Voice Coil. The patent details a headphone driver that should also be of note for the speaker industry. As Croft notes, the patent office initially rejected the claims due to prior patents, eventually accepting the inventor's arguments, in 2016. The review provides the historical context for planar magnetic transducers, and explains why this is an important patent.
