Dolby Laboratories announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire GE Licensing, which owns, maintains, and licenses an extensive portfolio of intellectual property (IP), primarily targeting the consumer digital media and electronics sectors. GE Licensing is responsible for more than 5,000 patents, including important digital media technologies such as the HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) and VVC (Versatile Video Coding) video and audio encoding technologies.

Alta Audio Receives US Patent for its XTL II Hybrid Transmission Line Technology
Alta Audio, the company created by industry veteran Michael Levy, announced that it received US patent 11917361B2 for its XTL Transmission Line technology. Recently introduced in the company's latest Aphrodite four-way loudspeaker, updating an already patented original technology that applies the cabinet internal geometry to tune the frequency response, the new approach evolves to a hybrid transmission line, a ported enclosure design that Michael Levy says greatly increases power handling, lowers distortion, and extends bass frequencies.
Cirrus Logic, Audioscenic, and Zylux Reveal Laptop Design Featuring Multichannel Spatial Audio at Computex 2024
During Computex 2024, Audioscenic revealed a multichannel laptop reference design built through a special collaboration with Cirrus Logic and Zylux. The reference design combines Audioscenic Amphi position-adaptive 3D sound with DSP smart amplifier technology from Cirrus Logic, and micro-transducers from Zylux. Once again, Audioscenic showcases the full potential of multichannel spatial audio to enhance audio reproduction, even under the most extreme hardware constraints.

This is an interesting patent awarded to Lakshmikanth Tipparaju, Allan Devantier, William Decanio, and Andri Bezzola, on behalf of Samsung Electronics - effectively the audio research team that Samsung created in Valencia, CA. The industry has attempted to achieve a successful implementation of acoustic radiation closely coupled to a boundary surface for omnidirectional and subwoofer applications - unfortunately, mostly plagued by resonances generated by the waveguide or reflector surface. This new approach appears to be an effective solution.
Lenbrook Media Group Unveils MQA Labs and Exciting Plans for IP Portfolio
The newly formed Lenbrook Media Group (LMG), a business unit created on the aftermath of the MQA acquisition in the autumn of 2023, has announced the creation of MQA Labs with a mission to advance the distribution of high resolution audio with a suite of audio processing enhancement, conversion and encoding products for the music supply chain. Its three core solutions now include AIRIA by MQA Labs, essentially the SCL6 adaptive hi-res audio codec; FOQUS by MQA Labs, addressing analog-to-digital conversion; and QRONO by MQA Labs, audio processing enhancements for playback devices.
