Tidal and Dolby Announce Dolby Atmos Music Available on Smartphones and Tablets

Tidal members subscribing to the Tidal HiFi tier, with compatible Android smartphones or tablets, now have access to a growing library of music available in Dolby Atmos from Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group. This currently includes tracks from some of the world’s biggest artists such as Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, Blondie, and more. Tidal is also working closely with its artist-owners, including Jay-Z, to mix their catalogs in Dolby Atmos – which are expected to become available in 2020.

This follows the presentations made early at CES 2019 and a repeat of the demonstrations at IFA 2019 in Berlin. At this event, Sony announced the upcoming commercial availability of 360 Reality Audio, an immersive audio experience utilizing object-based spatial audio technology.

Sony confirms 360 Reality Audio Immersive Music Experiences on New Amazon Echo Studio

Sony Corporation announced that 360 Reality Audio content, which offers a new immersive music experience for listeners, will be made available on the new Amazon Echo Studio with Amazon Music HD to customers in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany and Japan later this year. Sony's 360 Reality Audio is an immersive audio experience utilizing MPEG-H object-based spatial audio technology from Fraunhofer IIS.

When Amazon recently announced its latest Echo Studio smart speaker, focusing on audio quality and promising an "immersive" and "3D Audio" experience, the partnership with Dolby Laboratories was highlighted. The same day, Dolby confirmed that its Dolby Atmos Music format will be supported directly on the Echo Studio with content in the new object-based format being streamed through Amazon Music HD. Dolby states, "listening to music in Dolby Atmos on Echo Studio will unleash every detail as it was meant to be heard, completely immersing fans in a whole new way."
