Acoustic Simulation: EASE 5’s Acousteer Engine Redefines Design Workflows

Acoustic simulation has long been a cornerstone for audio professionals, yet the iterative process of design, calculation, and analysis has traditionally been hampered by significant computation times and laborious workflows. From March to August 2014, in its Sound Control column dedicated to acoustics, Richard Honeycutt reviewed and wrote a series of articles on the evolution of predictive acoustics and acoustical modeling software, including a review of some of the available tools. This fourth article in the series discusses Enhanced Acoustic Simulator for Engineers (EASE), an engineering design and analysis software for optimizing acoustics. Loudspeaker modeling files are most often used with acoustical modeling programs such as EASE, Focus, CATT-Acoustic, and others to help determine how well the loudspeakers cover the audience areas and how much “spill” there is on the room’s surfaces. It is important to have accurate data about the characteristics of the loudspeakers that are used in the models.
