EISA, the Expert Imaging & Sound Association, is a community of technology magazines, websites, and social media commentators from 27 countries, specializing in hi-fi, home theater, photography, home video, car audio, and mobile electronics. Unfortunately the Expert Imaging & Sound Association (EISA) is suffering from a lack of leadership, since there are less publications involved every year, even though online coverage has been expanding dramatically. After a period of significant expansion, when EISA embraced contributions from other regions of the world, the association is not evolving in a good direction and there is a clear lack of understanding of the market reality. The awarded categories continue to use creativity to find descriptions to justify awards to certain products, while ignoring key technology trends.
Again this year, the EISA Gala and Awards Ceremony, the crowning moment both for awards winners and the participant media outlets, is taking place September 26, in Ascot, in the UK, instead of being associated with IFA in Berlin as it always was and it should be. This is pathetic and should be denounced since it is clearly intended to promote a Hi-Fi show in the UK, of which the current President of EISA, Paul Miller, is the promoter. It makes no sense that the EISA Awards take place at an hifi show when the product categories include photography, car audio and mobile. That also explains why there are less publications involved.
The editors of hifi magazines continue to complain that there isn't enough of their types of products at the IFA international trade show (the same thing they complain about CES in Las Vegas), while continuing to ignore new emerging categories of audio products that are unexplainably absent from any of the existing EISA Award categories. For over 40 years EISA evolved as the world's largest independent collaboration of media experts, and offers a unique, global viewpoint of what is intended to be "the consumer electronics market." Time for EISA to evolve if truly the organization is committed to represent "performance and innovation in Consumer Electronics".
Anyway, once again the EISA jury of experts rewards the best products in each class with a coveted EISA Award. The Awards are debated and voted upon by groups of specialist judging panels covering the full spectrum of consumer electronics products, including Hi-Fi, Home Theater Audio and Video, In-Car Electronics, Photography and Mobile Devices. And at least the rules for nominations and voting are strict and upheld, contributing to the prestige of the initiative. Of course, with less expert publications involved there are also less chances for manufacturers to see their truly innovative products rewarded.
All products must have been available for detailed test evaluation by the magazines in each Expert Group. Products are only considered if they have been available for assessment before July by at least five EISA members in the appropriate Expert Group. Awarded products must also be on sale to the general public in at least 10 countries, no later than October 1st in the Award year.
EISA Award-winning products can be promoted with an exclusive EISA Award logo and Citation, providing a clear visual buying recommendation. And EISA is still the world's largest independent collaboration of this type, and offers a unique, global viewpoint of the consumer electronics market.
