The new CoLinear Acoustics DSP-8C is a solution for those looking to configure multi-way active crossovers, speaker/driver correction, and advanced room correction in both the frequency and time domains. According to its creators, configuration of those advanced features is made simple in the new processor with the intuitive DSPconfig cross-platform control software (Windows, macOS, Linux). After setup, operation can also be controlled with the included infrared remote.
At the heart of the DSP-8C is a powerful SHARC+ running at 1GHz incorporating highly optimized IIR and FIR accelerators, offering cutting-edge DSP performance. With the availability of over 49,000 FIR taps, 348 IIR filters, and a multitude of DSP features, the DSP-8C can implement advanced corrections and filters at sampling rates of up to 192kHz.
The 2 input and 8 output digital signal processor/pre-amplifier also leverages the flagship ES9039SPRO DAC (same as the ES9039PRO - no MQA) with HyperStream IV architecture, and a highly optimized output stage based on Texas Instruments OPA1612 operational amplifiers. This results in industry-leading specifications, with unweighted THD+N rated as low as -127dB and DNR greater than 130dB. Processing is also user-selectable for 24-bit/96kHz or 24-bit/192kHz, providing further flexibility according to intended use.

The DSP-8C also offers USB (although still the obsolete B-type connector, for which a cable is included ending in A-Type), optical, and coaxial digital inputs. Each output channel can be independently set to single-ended or true balanced mode. And the DSP-8C also supports selectable, calibrated analog output voltages, ensuring that it integrates seamlessly into any setup.
According to Oliver Freeborn, the company's co-founder and managing director, "The DSP-8C represents a breakthrough in multichannel digital signal processing, combining reference-grade DAC performance with unprecedented processing power in a compact, audiophile-focused package. This is an ideal solution for high-end hifi enthusiasts seeking room correction and active crossovers, professional studio engineers requiring precise multichannel processing, or even custom installers needing flexible, high-performance DSP solutions."
At the heart of CoLinear Acoustics are two brothers - Michael and Oliver Freeborn - with a shared passion for high-fidelity audio and complementary expertise. Michael works on embedded firmware development, digital signal processing, and GUI development, and Oliver contributes with years of dedicated audio engineering experience and a deep understanding of acoustics, adding extensive experience in component selection, signal pathways, and system optimization to shape every aspect of the DSP-8C's hardware design.
The company's website is promoting a limited-time Founders' Edition with reduced pricing - £995.00 ($1300 USD) inc. UK shipping (normal retail price £1195.00 - $1600 USD approx. ) - for those placing an order of the CoLinear Acoustics DSP-8C, images of which are still preliminary. The final production unit will ship with a 22.5W universal AC adapter.
The company's roadmap includes further developments, with an advanced DAC, amplifiers, and integrated digital audio processing systems already in the works.
