Scheduled for presentation at the High End 2023 show in Munich, Germany, the new IsoAcoustics Aperta Sub XL subwoofer isolator expands on the Aperta Sub and makes the patented IsoAcoustics technology available for subwoofers of up to 160 lbs (72.5 kg). The subtle design does not get in the way of the feet on the subwoofer and remains visually subdued while unleashing the speaker’s full potential. Carpet disks for anchoring the subwoofer into carpeted surfaces are included.

This article examines an important patent filed in 2014 by F. Bruce Thigpen (Tallahassee, FL) and granted in June 2016. Appearing both as the inventor and assignee, Thigpen describes a rotary sound transducer having an improved output at higher frequencies. Thigpen has been working on this type of device for more than a decade and has advanced what was already a very difficult engineering achievement, to a more sophisticated structure that apparently raises the general performance and high frequency limits beyond what was thought possible with this architecture. Brane Audio Debuts Brane X Portable Speaker with Built-in Subwoofer

Brane Audio, an audio company from Austin, Texas, is introducing a new portable speaker at CES 2023 which the company says is able to generate expanded low frequency response. The Brane X is the first speaker in its class to include a subwoofer, producing much more bass than comparable portable speakers thanks to the company's new Repel-Attract Driver (R.A.D.) that uses a novel "magnetic negative spring" supported by an axial magnetic bearing system. Brane Audio is offering private demos of its new speaker during CES.

This review discusses an intriguing speaker design patented by Walter Ka Wai Chu, from Taiwan. The design allows the speaker device to potentially improve the bass performance in the entire low-frequency band instead of being limited to only a few low-frequency points, the inventor claims. While James Croft confesses to being somewhat skeptical of whether, in its current disclosed form, the device will provide a useful advantage, he found the design sufficiently interesting to be analyzed in more detail.

BassBoss Announces SSP215-MKII Double 15" Low-Profile Active Subwoofer

Because the demand for bass is often in conflict with the demand for space, and in general a subwoofer’s size is proportional to its deep-bass output, BassBoss Loudspeakers released the SSP215-MKII Low-Profile Subwoofer. The Los Angeles-based company describes this new model as a powerful subwoofer with a small frontal dimension of only 17.5". With an output that matches or beats most double 18s, the design allows multiple placement options for expansive bass in a constricted space.
