The transaction creates a much larger consumer and entertainment technology business and one of the industry’s largest intellectual property (IP) licensing platforms with a diverse portfolio of entertainment and semiconductor intellectual property.

SiriusXM and Pandora Get Together to Create the Largest Audio Entertainment Company in US

Sirius XM Holdings and Pandora Media announced a definitive agreement under which SiriusXM will acquire Pandora in an all-stock transaction valued at approximately $3.5 billion. The combination creates the largest audio entertainment company in the US (both services are only available in the US market), with more than $7 billion in expected pro-forma revenue in 2018 and strong, long-term growth opportunities. According to the announcement, both SiriusXM and Pandora brands, products, and services will continue independently.

Via Adds xHE-AAC To Advanced Audio Coding Patent Pool License

To encourage adoption of the highest efficiency encoding audio technology, world-wide intellectual property solutions provider, Via Licensing, announced the upcoming availability of Extended High Efficiency AAC (xHE-AAC) as part of the Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) patent pool. The expanded patent pool license will be available at no additional cost to licensees, starting in Q4 of 2017. This will enable audio streaming services to adopt the most efficient encoding technology available, at lower costs.

Tessera to Acquire DTS, Inc

Imaging and semiconductor technologies company Tessera Technologies, announced the intention to acquire DTS, Inc, effectively resulting in the merger of the two companies. The surprising announcement states that the established audio solutions provider has entered into a definitive agreement under which Tessera will acquire DTS for $42.50 per share. The all-cash transaction is valued at approximately $850 million.
