Sonitus Technologies Extends Molar Mic Two-Way Comms Platform and Bone-Conduction Speaker to New Commercial Applications

While the audio industry has focused on hearables, some companies are exploring embedded wearables. Sonitus Technologies has been focusing on military communication NFMI applications, trying to embed the same features of a two-way wireless communications system that can be used undetected, even under the most harsh environments. The company's “Molar Mic” fits a miniaturized headset into a device that clips to a user’s back teeth, and is now available as a Bluetooth-compatible solution for high-noise commercial markets.

Nanusens, a research venture working on nano-sensors built inside CMOS devices, has announced that its proprietary technology can significantly increase the operational life of earbuds by up to 20%. This can be achieved by replacing the MEMS sensors in an earbud with a single multi-sensor chip solution that is up to ten times smaller, freeing up space for larger batteries. The company will be announcing this technology solution at MWC 2019 in Barcelona, Spain.

Lucyd Pte Ltd, a company based in Singapore, has recently announced their first product, Lucyd Loud, the world’s first prescription-compatible Bluetooth smart glasses. Even though the company is developing a future Augmented Reality solution, for its first commercial release Lucyd designed glasses that are able to replace wireless headsets. Lucyd Loud is basically a frame that uses bone conduction technology to deliver open-ear sound to the wearer, and brings the functions of a Bluetooth headset and more to a normal sunglass form factor.

AfterShokz launched its new Trekz Titanium headphones on Indiegogo, a wireless, bone-conduction headphone perfect for runners, hikers and cyclists. The design allows users to listen to music while keeping their ear canals open and AfterShokz says its PremiumPitch+ technology guarantees they won’t compromise on sound.
