Soundbars Star in 2020 With Another Strong Year for Home Audio

In 2020, the value of the Home Audio market was the highest it has ever been, rising 4% to $19.8 billion. This was partly driven by the pandemic, which in forcing people inside has supercharged interest in music and media consumption. In a new report from Futuresource Consulting by analyst Patrick Montgomery, the market research firm calls attention to Soundbars, which continues to be a strong growth audio product segment, increasingly expanding the wireless audio ecosystem.

Nugen Audio Announces Update to Paragon Convolution Reverb

Nugen Audio released Version 1.1 of its 3D-compatible convolution reverb plug-in, Paragon. Included among the updates is the addition of outdoor Impulse Responses (IRs) and improved balancing of early reflections. Version 1.1 also features new presets and an improved browser, with “search,” “tagging” and “favorite” functions. Unlike other convolution reverbs on the market, Paragon offers full control of the decay, room size and brightness via state-of-the-art re-synthesis modeled on 3D recordings of real spaces.

James Croft reviews a patent claimed by Polk Audio and granted in 2015, describing “a single-enclosure loudspeaker system that projects multichannel surround sound into a listener’s room, and so replaces multiple conventional surround channel loudspeakers.” The patent also describes, in one embodiment of the invention, that the “surround channel program material is pre-processed by an integrated wireless transmission device that performs certain digital signal processing and channel mixing steps in advance of wireless surround signal broadcast to a receiver.” This article was originally published in Voice Coil, January 2015.
