Masterfully merging Yamaha innovation with its rich musical heritage, the two new premium headphones are interesting designs. The YH-4000 premium open-back headphones inherit the design and engineering innovations of Yamaha’s flagship YH-5000SE headphones, yet offering a distinctive sound signature of their own. Providing a more intimate interpretation of the Orthodynamic experience, the headphones deliver exceptional clarity and depth, with fast, precise response thanks to their ultra-thin planar magnetic diaphragms.
The YH-C3000 features newly developed Armodynamic drivers, which the Japanese company says are the result of a 10-year audio research and development initiative. Both headphones are made in Japan at a facility that also manufactures flagship grand pianos and audio components, representing the company’s commitment to True Sound – lifelike realism, emotional depth, and spatial precision.
“Headphone enthusiasts will be amazed by these new models,” says Alex Sadeghian, director of consumer audio at Yamaha. “The YH-4000 offers a fresh perspective on Orthodynamic sound at a more affordable price, while the YH-C3000 transforms the premium closed-back segment. The combination of our new Armodynamic drivers and wood housings delivers a sound that is exceptionally smooth, natural, and spacious. Plus, they look stunning and are incredibly comfortable to wear.”

Weighing just 320 grams (11.3 ounces), the YH-4000 headphones feature lightweight magnesium housings, a two-layer headband with a step-less slider for precise adjustment, and hybrid ear pads that combine soft suede and flexible PU leather for all-day wearability. An inclined swivel mechanism ensures a snug fit behind the ear, preserving low-frequency response and enhancing acoustic performance. As Yamaha states, every component has been chosen to support immersive, fatigue-free listening with a sense of elegance and durability.

The YH-C3000 with the newly developed Yamaha Armodynamic drivers (pictured above), have been over a decade in the making. These drivers use a three-layer diaphragm that sandwiches a soft foam layer between two layers of blended paper, resin, and ZYLON — a trademarked high-performance material also found in the Yamaha flagship hifi speakers.
The unique construction strikes a balance between lightness, rigidity, and internal damping, delivering smooth, high-resolution sound with a fast response and minimal distortion. A patented Y-shaped mesh damper and pure iron pole piece further enhance clarity and punch.
Complementing the advanced driver system are housings handcrafted from beech, a type of wood also used in parts of Yamaha pianos, chosen for its natural acoustic properties. The housings are painted and polished to a black mirrored finish that reveals the wood’s natural grain, echoing the craftsmanship of fine musical instruments.

Yamaha will showcase the two new headphones at SoCal CanJam, September 13-14 at the Irvine Marriott in Irvine, California. Attendees will have the opportunity to experience the new YH-4000 and YH-C3000 headphones, along with the flagship YH-5000SE headphones and the high-performance HA-L7A headphone amplifier. The YH-4000 headphones will be available in October 2025 for $2,499.95 MSRP, while the YH-C3000 model will retail for $1,699.95 and will launch already in September 2025.
