Yamaha is the world’s biggest producer of musical instruments and one of the leading producers of audio equipment for home entertainment and professional use. Yet, it's not common to think about Yamaha when it comes to microphones, even though the company has been designing excellent solutions for streamers and home studios, and its professional audio catalog includes great dynamic handheld microphones and unified communications solutions.
At the heart of the new Yamaha YCM705 is its condenser capsule, featuring a gold-sputtered one-inch diaphragm. The precision-crafted transducer captures subtle nuances as well as high-SPL from any source, from playing and singing, reproducing those signals with authenticity and musicality. The microphone's cardioid polar pattern helps focus on the desired source, effectively eliminating background noise, which is ideal for non-professional environments and home studios.
Yamaha says its engineers designed the YCM705 to flawlessly reproduce the sound of the popular acoustic guitar/vocals, singer-songwriter setup, leveraging Yamaha's long experience of manufacturing traditional instruments, and ensuring the captured results remain true to any type of instruments, from strings to percussion.

Extra features, such as a high-pass filter, make the YCM705 condenser microphone versatile, allowing users to deal with existing low-frequency noise common in home environments. Depending on the application, the filter can be switched between 80 and 160Hz. Meanwhile, if particularly loud signals are being captured — such as drums or guitar amplifiers — switchable two-stage pre-attenuation allows the 120dB maximum sound pressure level to be increased to 130 or 140dB. This is more than enough headroom for almost all musical applications.
The Yamaha YCM705 is a complete package for capturing creativity in true studio quality. Alongside the microphone, it includes a pop filter to reduce plosive sounds, a spider for decoupling and precise alignment, with matching replacement rubber rings and a thread adapter to ensure compatibility with any standard microphone stand.
The microphone can be stored and transported in the included bag, all an example of Yamaha's renowned high-quality workmanship. And in the best tradition from the Japanese company, the YCM705 will be available in black or white finish from August 2025 with a recommended retail price of EUR €399 (excl. VAT) and somewhere around that figure in US dollars or way more, depending on where the Trump tariffs land that week.
