KEF Introduces the New Muo Portable Bluetooth Speaker with Auracast

After more than 60 years of delivering great hi-fidelity sound, KEF is now embracing the challenge of conveying the same credits for portable audio with a new generation of the Muo Bluetooth speaker. Leveraging all the group's speaker expertise, the KEF Muo aims to deliver the same sense of "high fidelity sound" in a Bluetooth 5.4 design with LE Audio, Auracast, and aptX Adaptive, delivering effortless portability and everyday flexibility.
The new KEF Muo Bluetooth speaker ($249.99 retail), the second iteration of the original, is promoted as delivering "powerful bass, crisp details and richness, turning playlists into immersive experiences." Designed by Ross Lovegrove, the compact Muo draws inspiration from the iconic two-meter-tall sculptural KEF Muon speakers, also designed by Lovegrove.

To "grow" its presence, the portable speaker uses a large racetrack driver with a P-Flex surround that challenges the speaker compact size perception with its impressive bass. This racetrack driver is strategically integrated for efficient movement of the speaker cone to generate airflow for clear sound while minimizing distortion at moderate levels. The P-Flex Surround technology uses a pleated structure - adapted from KEF's KC62 and KC92 subwoofers - that resists internal air pressure, allowing for precise cone movement. The deep, controlled bass is then complemented by a dedicated 19mm dome tweeter that delivers the sharp high tones and a full-bodied mid-range, ensuring clarity with every detail.

Apart from the aptX Adaptive codec that ensures the maximum possible quality from Bluetooth sources (up to 24-bit/48kHz), the Muo also benefits from KEF's Music Integrity Engine (MIE), using proprietary DSP algorithms that enhance sound integrity and detail. This processing engine was specially tuned for the Muo, exploring the approach from the flagship LS60 Wireless speakers, with a limiter and Dynamic Bass Boost to provide complete sound integrity at any volume. And whether standing up or lying down, the Muo’s EQ automatically optimizes output to deliver sound depth and definition, seamlessly adapting to any given situation.

"Muo reflects our continued commitment to audio excellence and thoughtful design. As a new generation of our portable speaker, it builds on KEF's refined acoustic engineering, allowing more people to experience high-fidelity sound at any chosen moment, seamlessly integrating into their daily life. With seven vibrant color options, Muo doesn’t just deliver great sound, it celebrates personal style and individuality," says Grace Lo, President and Head of Global Marketing at KEF.

The built-in 24-hour battery is another strong argument, ensuring sound throughout the entire day. In just 2 hours, the speaker is fully charged. If time is of the essence, with a quick 15-minute charge, it can play for up to 3 hours, depending on the levels. The IP67-rated waterproof and dustproof design is truly portable, with a carrying strap to ensure it follows every lifestyle. With an operating range from –20°C to 45°C, the Muo is also ready to perform in any climate.

This versatile portable speaker also effortlessly connects with Google Fast Pair and Microsoft Swift Pair with a single tap. A simple wired connection to any laptop is available through Muo’s USB Type-C port, while a built-in microphone with echo cancellation lets users take calls with clarity or use voice commands from connected apps.

For a truly immersive experience, two Muo speakers can be paired to create a portable stereo system with dedicated left and right channels. Multiple Muo speakers can also be linked to further amplify the listening experience via Auracast, elevating music during festive occasions.

Crafted from premium aluminum and recycled plastic, this current generation of the Muo is available in seven vibrant finishes with tone-on-tone carrying straps.
