Exeger and Hama Bring Self-Charging, Solar-Powered Accessories to IFA Berlin

September 4 2025, 00:35
Exeger, the Swedish company manufacturing Powerfoyle solar cell technology, and German consumer electronics specialist Hama are showcasing their first jointly developed solar-powered accessories. The focus for this collaboration starts with remote controls, those dumb objects that are responsible for a large waste of disposable batteries and typically are used for just a few moments of brief interactions a day. The products showcased live at IFA Berlin 2025, Hall 4.2, Booth 145, are also already available in stores across Europe.

The new range integrates Exeger’s Powerfoyle technology into Hama’s product portfolio, enabling remote controls to continuously recharge with light – both indoors and outdoors. With this innovation, consumers can enjoy greater convenience, remove reliance on batteries, and extend the life of their everyday tech products.

“By combining Exeger’s solar innovation with Hama’s strong retail presence and reputation for quality accessories, we’re making self-powered products accessible to millions of consumers,” says Georgios Foufas, Chief Commercial Officer at Exeger. “This is our latest milestone in our shared vision of a more sustainable, user-friendly consumer world.”

Hama is offering a range of universal and brand-specific remotes, including models with Bluetooth radios for truly multifunctional replacement of standard remote controls in smart-TVs and appliances. These universal or replacement remote controls feature predominant Powerfoyle surfaces to make sure they remain charged all the time.

For Hama, the devices underscore the company’s mission to deliver practical solutions. “Our customers demand accessories that not only make life easier, but also keep up with modern sustainability goals,” says Bastian Strommer, Head of Product Management Consumer Electronics at Hama. “Thanks to Powerfoyle, we can now offer products that charge themselves using all forms of light, no matter where you are.”

Fuelled by Powerfoyle technology, the remote controls charge from any light source – natural sunlight or artificial indoor lighting. By extending battery life and removing the reliance on disposable batteries, the remote controls cut down on electronic waste. Designed with daily use in mind, the products stay powered as long as they are exposed to any form of light, ensuring it’s always ready when needed.

Exeger developed a unique solar cell technology that converts all forms of light into electrical energy. Powerfoyle enhances every product it is integrated into with extended or even unlimited battery life. This material is a fully customizable solar cell membrane with superior design properties, and it can be integrated seamlessly into any electronic device. Powerfoyle has already been proven in headphones, cases for TWS earbuds, and even portable speakers. Integrations in new designs are available from an extensive partner network that includes some of the world’s leading audio ODMs, such as Merry Electronics, Eastech, Tymphany, Cosonic, and OSM Group.

Founded in 1923, Hama accompanies people in all situations every day with numerous accessory products for smartphones, smart home, smartwatches, TV, audio, computers, or photography. The company employs 1,500 people at its German headquarters in Monheim, Bavaria, and around 2,500 worldwide. With 19 foreign locations and numerous commercial agencies, Hama enjoys a global presence.
