Cambridge Audio Melomania A100 TWS Earbuds: Bet on Features

July 7 2025, 09:10
Over a period of six years, starting with the Melomania 1, Cambridge Audio offered a combination of great and unique designs and strong features. In fact, the 2020 Melomania Touch are still among the most elegant earbuds ever available. In 2025, the category is now becoming ever more competitive, and the British brand decided to drop the unique design, embrace the AirPods form factor like almost everyone else, and go for differentiation based on features and remain price-competitive thanks to a Qualcomm Snapdragon Sound core.
Can true wireless earbuds be seen as “hifi”? According to Cambridge Audio, that is precisely what differentiates the Melomania range, going as far as describing the earbuds as powered by “hifi grade Class AB amplification” found in the "highly acclaimed CX and EX Series amplifiers” to deliver the brand’s signature sound. We’ve seen crazier marketing statements, so we leave it there. What truly makes the new Melomania A100 earbuds “hifi” is probably more the support for LDAC, aptX Lossless, and aptX Adaptive higher-quality wireless codecs. That, and the availability of DynamEQ to keep the music perfectly balanced, even at low volumes - a proprietary adjustment processing technology made possible thanks to a dual-core 240MHz Qualcomm Kalimba DSP.

Otherwise, the new Cambridge Audio Melomania A100 earbuds are a very standard design - again paying tribute, like everyone else, to the might of the market-leading AirPods Pro. Cambridge Audio (now only Cambridge) says that the design option was crafted for comfort with premium lightweight materials. The compact charging case allows for a larger battery with 28 hours of charge, plus fast charging support, and the Melomania A100 are able to play music for up to 11 hours on a single charge.

The true wireless earbuds are available in great-looking “premium” Black or White finishes, which at least offer an additional choice than Apple’s standard white-only. At the heart of the A100 design, we can find precision-tuned 10mm dynamic drivers with neodymium magnets that are able to deliver deeper bass with a standard frequency response curve.

An interesting aspect is that the new Cambridge Melomania A100 earbuds also feature hybrid Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and Transparency Mode, with external microphones for monitoring outside ambient noise and microphones inside the ear canal. But the Cambridge marketing department doesn’t think that is something that would help sell the product any longer, given that now everyone offers the same ANC. By the way, with ANC turned on, the A100 will be able to offer 6.5 hours of playback, which is still very reasonable.

As with all Cambridge products, these A100 earbuds have been designed, tuned, and engineered at Melomania, the company’s London-based music venue and headquarters, by the same team behind Cambridge’s award-winning hifi equipment. It’s a nice story.

And the Cambridge marketing team prefers to highlight the brand’s hifi heritage to describe the “iconic Cambridge sound – transparent and natural, bringing the music directly to you without any distortion!” Of course, these earbuds can also be tuned to preferences using the updated Melomania Connect app, now offering a 7-band adjustable EQ and six presets tailored to different music genres and needs.

The Qualcomm-powered Cambridge Melomania A100 design is a Bluetooth 5.4 platform with Multipoint Connection, and the processing power to explore the full six-microphone array for noise reduction and clean calls. Now available for EUR €139 or USD $149.99, even though availability in the US is still pending confirmation for later in 2025 due to Trump’s tariffs.
