The Verband Deutscher Tonmeister e.V. (VDT) association awarded Karlheinz Brandenburg the Medal of Honor for his services to the audio industry. The award was presented to Brandenburg during the opening ceremony of the 32nd Tonmeistertagung in Düsseldorf, Germany, which also honored Günther Theile. The VDT is one of the oldest and biggest professional associations in the audio industry and the promoter of the biannual Tonmeistertagung conference and exhibition, which took place from 8 to 11 November.

Alliance for Open Media Proposes Royalty-free Immersive Audio Specification

The Alliance for Open Media is a non-profit industry consortium formed to develop open, royalty-free technology for multimedia delivery that can "serve as alternatives" to the Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) standards. The organization is the creator of the AV1 Video Codec and now proposes an Immersive Audio Model and Formats (IAMF) Container Specification that the organization says will enable ecosystem-wide innovation in the Immersive/Spatial audio domain.
