Since 2013, Joao Martins leads audioXpress as editor-in-chief of the US-based magazine and website, the leading audio electronics, audio product development and design publication, working also as international editor for Voice Coil, the leading periodical for the loudspeaker industry. Covering Audio and Video technology for more than 30 years - Broadcast, Film, Computer Graphics, and Music - as founder and editor of several leading publications in Portuguese and Spanish languages, (he's also fluent in French!), he benefits from a broad and rich perspective of those sectors and its multiple verticals. Marketing and Communication Specialist working at the intersection of media and technology for over three decades, Joao Martins started as a musician and studied visual arts and cinema before founding its own (short-lived) advertising agency. After a career in marketing and sales in film, television, radio and pro audio systems, transitioned full time to magazine publishing.

Sennheiser announced the acquisition of Swiss company Merging Technologies - one of the world's leading manufacturers of high-resolution digital audio recording systems and a leading innovator in audio networking technology. According to the announcement, Merging Technologies will be working under the umbrella of the Sennheiser group to enlarge the Neumann range of products. A new Neumann audio recording interface will be the first visible product of the combination.

Microchip Technology launched a new maXTouch Knob on Display (KoD) controller, the first automotive-grade touchscreen controller family to natively support the detection and reporting of capacitive rotary encoders, as well as mechanical switches on top of a touch panel. Unlike traditional mechanical rotary encoders, this new technology enables the mounting of the knob directly onto the display without an opening in the panel or any customization of the touch pattern, increasing design flexibility.

Tascam Revives CD-A580 Cassette Recorder/CD Player/USB Flash Drive Recorder

Tascam announced the re-launch of the original CD-A580 Cassette Recorder/CD Player/USB Flash Drive Recorder, which in 2017 finally replaced the CD-A500MkII, the successor of the original CD-A550. By combining a cassette recorder, CD player and USB flash drive recorder/player into a rack-mountable unit, the CD-A550/580 was designed to be a playback device for installed sound applications. Gradually, it was in fact adopted by people who just needed something to playback their old cassettes and their old CDs, and wanted to copy those to a digital file.
